Everpresent Blue
words and music by Stephen Barling

Mother takes the washing out
sister mows the lawn
me, I got a hole to dig
I wait until they're gone

'Cuz every time I dig a hole
they fill it up with dew
so I wait
in the everpresent blue

Mother let the fire burn down
sister built it high
me, I take a candle out
and hold it to the sky

But every time I light a match
the old sun comes out too
so i wait
in the everpresent blue

Brother take this shovel
dig a hole out in the yard
put your troubles into it
and come inside
and wait 'round for the rain
